New: Intrinsic Health Coaching for Your Employees
It takes more than just knowing healthy lifestyle information to actually change our behavior. But how can we move through what's stopping us from acting health-wise? Mission Hospital has developed a Health Coaching Program that is available to its staff, as well as to others in the community to help answer this question. This employer-sponsored program includes a team of Health Education Center nurses, pharmacists, and care managers who help participants manage chronic diseases, like diabetes, depression, hypertension, hyperlipidemia (high blood fats), metabolic syndrome, or asthma. One option in the program in this coaching series is a coaching approach called Intrinsic Coaching®. Most of us think of coaches as someone who gives us guidance by telling us what to do. With Intrinsic Coaching, the essential ingredient is you. Your thinking and goals are the center of attention. The intrinsic coaching program led by RNs, helps the participant look within themselves to come to their own goals and realizations in order to find out what is holding them back from where they want to be. The coaching is about a 100-day process and commitment, involving six face-to-face meetings with two check-in phone conversations. Referral may be made by a disease management care manager, or by self-referral on a self-pay basis for those in the community.
