Mission Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Center

Caring for and healing a wound seems like it should be a simple and easy task. However, some wounds are very complex and challenging and need the professional evaluation and treatment from wound care experts that can't be given at home with a first-aid kit or home remedies.

Wounds can also have a significant impact on those suffering and their families, oftentimes causing embarrassment or discomfort that leads to missed events, social activities and outings.

Mission's Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Center is the oldest and most established wound treatment center in Western North Carolina. We have a team of wound specialists who provide care and education to help patients and their caregivers cope with and understand their wound treatment plan.

Our Services
In some cases, healing a wound could mean only a simple medication change, but in other more complex situations debridements, skin substitutes or hyperbaric oxygen therapy may be needed.  At the Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Center we offer a full range of services and treatments including:

  • Wound Care - treatment given to patients with wounds or skin problems that will not heal. Most result from acute or chronic conditions, including those associated with vascular disease, diabetes, insect or animal bites, burns, bone infections, and injuries.
  • Ostomy Care- acute and rehabilitative care for people with disorders of the gastrointestinal system, genitourinary system and integumentary system.
  • Foot and Nail Care - for high risk patients (e.g., those with diabetes or vascular insufficiency) who need assistance with callous care or toenail cutting. Professional foot care is essential for these patients as a preventive measure.
  • Manual Lymph Drainage - a safe, effective approach to cleansing the body's tissues to reduce swelling in certain areas of the body.
  • Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy - a medical treatment where patients breathe 100% oxygen at increased atmospheric pressures while lying inside a chamber to increase the oxygen level in body tissue to promote healing, fight infection, and aid in the restoration of damaged tissue.
  • Transcutaneous Oxygen Monitoring (TCOM)- simple testing to determine oxygen levels, wound healing potential, hyperbaric candidacy, and mapping for amputation levels.
  • Surgical Intervention- deep tissue debridement, surgical reconstruction of wounds of the entire body.

Mission's team works closely to develop a plan that is individualized to your needs. We also offer a supportive environment that helps you and your family members understand and assist in the care plan.

Much of the success of your treatment depends on you and your compliance. Our team will teach you how to care for your wound at home and will give you specific instructions, including how to change dressings, how to protect yourself from further injuries and health and will provide nutritional information for successful wound healing. We will monitor your progress and be available for questions or assistance every step of the way.
