Is this an emergency?
When you call during office hours, the staff at Asheville Orthopaedic Associates assesses your condition and schedules an appointment as quickly as possible…immediately if necessary but usually within 24 to 48 hours. However, some injuries need treatment right away. If we’re not in the office, please call 911 or go to the nearest hospital emergency room. If you’re headed to McDowell Hospital’s Emergency Department, our office offers 24/7 emergency coverage. These symptoms indicate the need for medical attention:
- Swelling, bruising or bleeding
- Intense pain
- Inability to move the affected body part
- Bone puncturing through the skin

Dr. Green joined McDowell Hospital in 2004 after serving in private practice in Kilamarnock, VA. He formerly served as a Staff Orthopedic Surgeon for the U.S. Navy.
Christopher L. Elder, M.D.
Christopher L. Elder, M.D. has been in practice at Asheville Orthopaedic Associates since 2002. He is a general orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine, with a focus on the shoulder, knee, and hip.
